Power Rangers Reboot’s Rita Repulsa Revealed!

It’s almost hard to remember a life before the Power Rangers existed right?

The original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series aired in 1993, and the franchise has since spawned a ton of series, shorts and movies

But Rita Repulsa has been there the whole way through, summoning monsters and giving it sass, attempting to destroy the Power Rangers once and for all.

While she wasn’t the only female villain to appear on the show…

Don’t forget Miss Scorpina

She’s certainly the one everyone remembers. And it’s because of this the upcoming reboot has got pretty big boots to fill in the villain department.

People Magazine revealed the first look at Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa in 2017’s Power Rangers and she’s meaner and greener looking than her predecessor.

ย They’ve gone with a very different approach for the new movie, which I’m quite glad about. While I loved the original Rita Repulsa’s design it wouldn’t feel right to someone else wear the costume.

ย “It’s definitely a modern and edgy re-imagining of the original Rita Repulsa,

We wanted to give her a backstory that connects her to the new Rangers” says Banks.

I think that this new take looks beautiful and absolutely badass, and Elizabeth Banks certainly has the comedy background to pull off a campy space witch relentlessly pursuing karate chopping teens in neon motorcycle gear, and looks way less likely to end up seeing the error of her ways and becoming the Mystic Mother, Empress of Good Magic and leader of the Mystic Ones.

This gets an unexpected high five from me!
