I know we’re all still reeling a bit from lthe utter badassedry of THAT TRAILER, but ThinkGeek have released an officially licensed BB -8 Droid backpack that might have officially won the title of the cutest, nerdiest thing ever.
The bag is available to buy here for $39.99
Fans went crazy for the adorable BB-8 droid since our first glimpse in the teaser released last year, so much so one that one fan got the little buddy tattooed the day after it aired!
Cuteness aside, the thing that most excites me about the BB-8 droid is that our wibbly wobbly little friend is an entirely practical effect.
This tiny little droid has done more to reassure me than anything else I’ve seen of the film. This tiny piece of footage is pure magic, and it feels like Star Wars in a way the CGI-heavy prequels never did.
Mark Hamill spoke to Yahoo Movies about filming with the little guy:
They never cease to amaze me with what they’re able to come up with, you know? I said, “How are you ever gonna top R2-D2, the most adorable droid in movie history?” And then they have this new one….
And when they were demonstrating how they did this thing, live on set — because it’s not CGI, that’s a live prop — I was just amazed. They let me play around with it. [Laughs] I was running it all around at the creature shop up in Pinewood. I’m telling you, it’s an absolute delight. And not having thought that I’d ever go back there, to go back into that world, is just – I get the chills. It’s just so much fun.
Hamill, who is reprising his role as Luke Skywalker was notably absent from this weeks newly released trailer and poster, and the internet freaked out, causing A LOT of speculation with comicbookresources.com reminding us of when JJ Abrams and Mark Hamill discussed the possibility of an “Evil Luke Skywalker”.…
Has Luke gone to the Dark Side? Will that be a big reveal? Christmas can’t come quick enough!
I’m still unsure whether I’ll be picking up any distinctive character merch before I’ve actually seen the film, remember, there’s a whole freaking bunch of Jar-Jar Binks backpacks on eBay…
